It’s National S’mores Week (apparently)!
If you are from the UK, you might not know what a S’more
even is – but I can assure you they are delicious – and very easy to put
together.
S’mores are a campfire favourite – toasting marshmallows
over an open fire, before sandwiching the molten sugary treat between two
graham crackers along with some chocolate (usually Hershey’s). Now – we don’t
get graham crackers easily in the UK, but they kinda have the texture of
digestive biscuits, which are an excellent substitute. Hershey’s chocolate is
not to everyone’s taste, so some chocolate chips are a perfect go to for this.
And fear not, no need for a campfire; just a bog standard
microwave oven will melt the marshmallows perfectly.
I’m using smurf shaped marshmallows my young friend Emily
brought me back from her holibobs – where she visited a Haribo factory.
Honestly, I was sooo jealous! But any marshmallow of your choosing will do just
fine.
Simply layer your biscuit, be it a graham cracker (I found
some in my local Chinese supermarket would you believe) or digestive with a
marshmallow, or two, and sprinkle with some chocolate chips. Pop in the
microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. The mallows will puff up so when the time is up
you might have to reposition them back onto the biscuit.
Place another biscuit on top to make a sandwich – and hey
presto – you have a s’more.
Very easy and great fun for kids – just make sure the mallows have cooled a bit before enjoying.
Disclaimer: No real smurfs were harmed in the making of this
treat!

Keep seeing s'mores mentioned on Pinterest but never really understood what they were. If I'd known marshmallow was involved I'd have found out sooner! & how awesome are marshmallow smurfs?! :)

DeleteA Haribo factory!!?? Sounds like the best place ever. I've made these before with McVities digestives and regular marshmallow - very yummy.

DeleteI think the desire to squash a smurf is one that we've all known at some time, if only we have the courage to admit it. The s'more is definitely on my list of things to try now. The microwave may melt marshmallows as well as a campfire but it's rubbish to sit around while singing songs. I know, I've tried.

DeleteI'd never thought of making s'mores in the microwave! S'mores were a big part of my Canadian childhood, as was singing ging gang gooly around the campfire! I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day now, ha!

DeleteWhat a brilliant entry for AlphaBakes! I didn't know you could get smurf marshmallows. Never been a fan of s'more as I don't like marshmallows but I'm coming round to them now so I'll have to give it a go. Thanks for entering AlphaBakes.

DeleteHaha amazing! I got these smurf mallows in Belgian before too, they do all kinds of smurf sweets over there! These are super cute! I wasn't feeling well the last few weeks before we left North America and headed back home so the last thing on my mind was filling my suitcases with graham crackers and US delicacies but now I'm regretting that I didn't!! Do you know of any stand alone stores in Scotland that sell American goodies the way they have them in London? or would I just have to resort to online to get my fix?
ReplyDeleteHi Gem, head to Lupe Pinto's on Great Western Road - Kelvinbridge subway stop - for some American goodies. Not a huge range, but some. Also, those candy stores - a few up Sauchiehall Street and one in Argyll Street. I hope you are enjoying Scotland!
